Lebanon: course on the recognition of devices and mines

The intense training activity carried out by the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, currently based on the "Ariete" brigade, in favor of the Lebanese armed forces (LAF) continues.

In recent days, the blue helmets have organized and conducted, at the headquarters of the Joint Task Force Lebanon of Shama, a course on the techniques of recognition of ordnance and mines (UXO and Mines Awareness Course) which was attended by forty LAF soldiers.

The activity, coordinated by EOD specialists and contingent trainers, developed between theoretical and practical lessons with the aim of increasing the knowledge and the ability to intervene in the event of the discovery of bombs.

In particular, the staff, in addition to devoting themselves to the study of the various types of mines and explosive devices known to the risks involved, has trained on the procedures for securing the area affected by the discovery of a potential threat, even in dangerous situations. , and allow specialists the subsequent remediation operations.

The UXO and Mines Awareness course is part of the training program prepared by the Italian contingent for the benefit of the Lebanese military, a program that also includes courses on crowd control techniques (Anti Riot and Crowd Control Techniques), on first aid techniques (Basic Life Support ) as well as on the conduct of operating activities.

Support to the Lebanese Armed Forces is one of the main tasks assigned to UNIFIL by UN's 1701 resolution, together with monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and assistance to the local population, activities for which the brigade's military Aries have long prepared at home and perform here with professionalism, transparency and impartiality.
