Lebanon: stress management course for doctors and healthcare personnel

Twenty-five doctors, nurses and Lebanese administrative staff took part in a "Stress management" course organized by the Italian Blue Helmets framed in the United Nations Force deployed in southern Lebanon (UNIFIL).

Given the appreciation received in the first session held in the Tire headquarters, the course was repeated in the locality of Al Bazuriyah, headquarters of "Amel", a non-profit association that has been operating in the area since 1979 with 24 centers and 6 mobile units for offering medical and psycho-social services to the most vulnerable sections of Lebanese society.

The collaboration with the Italian contingent and, in particular, with Italbatt, the unit based on the 3rd Bersaglieri regiment of the Sassari brigade, has made it possible to provide the members of the association with important notions on the subject of stress management at individual and group level. , a wealth of knowledge and useful tools to know the causes and possible remedies to prevent and protect oneself from the negative effects of stress on physical, psychological and social well-being, also due to the restrictions of lockdown imposed by the Lebanese government to limit the spread of the disease.

The psychologist of the Italian contingent, in relation to the stress related to the pandemic and the effects on emotions, behaviors, relationships both in the home and at work, explained how to overcome the moment of concern for the contagion and uncertainty about the future that is experiencing the local population.

In addition to assistance to the population, the commitment of the Italian Blue Helmets continues to ensure the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support for the Lebanese Armed Forces, one of the main tasks assigned to the Italian contingent of UNIFIL in compliance with resolution 1701 of the Security Council of the UN.
