Lebanon: medical support to the population continues

The medical support activities (MEDICAL CARE) that the Italian contingent in Lebanon are carrying out in favor of the local population continue.

In recent days, in fact, three other activities were carried out in the municipalities of Zibqin, Tayr Harfa and Kunin belonging to the Italian-led area of ​​operations, during which 155 patients (48 men, 70 women and 37 children) were visited by Medical Team Italian.

As a premise of the healthcare activities, the following were donated: 2.000 FFP2 masks, 2.000 FFP1 masks, 1900 surgical masks, 64 protective suits, 5.000 vinyl gloves, 2.000 nitrile gloves and 30 liters of disinfectant gel. The material aims to support and help local authorities in managing the current period of health emergency from COVID 19.

The "Medical Care" are among the activities foreseen by the resolution 1701 of the United Nations, in the framework of the support to the local population. Specifically, the medical teams move "at home" to provide general medical support to municipalities without a public health facility and are made up of doctors and nurses from the Italian Army framed in the command of the Sector West of UNIFIL and in ITALBATT, the maneuvering battalion based on the “Serenissima” lagoon regiment.

The Italian mission in Lebanon is currently led by the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade, in its sixth term in the "Land of the Cedars" with the colors of the United Nations, and is responsible for West Sector of UNIFIL in which 3800 UN peacekeepers operate from 16 of the 46 contributing countries to the UN mission and of which about 1.000 Italian soldiers are part of.

The activities carried out in Operating Theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COVI), led by the general of the army corps Francesco Paolo Figliuolo.
