Il military technical committee (MTC4L), in view of the enlistment of the first 1500 recruits of the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) to be deployed in southern Lebanon, has been activated for the rapid completion of 2 logistics hubs essential for training activities.
Located one near the city of Tripoli, that of Aaraman, home of the LAF Training Institute and the other in Saadyat, south of Beirut at the headquarters of the 8th Brigade of the Lebanese Army, the hubs were identified by the Committee in strategic positions and well in advance of the deadline of the competition for recruitment, to ensure, within the scope of capacity building, a prompt response to the needs of the LAF.
The activity was carried out in the period leading up to the ceasefire agreement of November 27 between Lebanon and Israel, demonstrating the LAF's desire to send a strong message of resilience to the international community.
Il Military Technical Committee for Lebanon, led by Major General Diodato Abagnara, was established at international level with a dual task: to support the LAF but also to support the Lebanese population through humanitarian initiatives. The committee operates in compliance with UNSCR 1701, in harmony with ongoing political and diplomatic initiatives. It is currently composed of 8 members (Italy, Germany, Spain, France, the Netherlands, the United States, the United Kingdom and the European Union), observers/partners and contributors (Australia, Canada, Egypt, Japan, European External Action Service - EEAS, European Union Military Staff - EUMS, UNIFIL, UNSCOL, Qatar, Belgium and Denmark) and is open to other calls, including regional partners, including the remaining Gulf countries. Its aim is to promote security in southern Lebanon, with benefits reflected throughout the country and the Middle East, through a combination of military, humanitarian and diplomatic interventions.
