A number of incendiary explosive devices planted along the road leading to Forward Operating Base UNP 1-32A, in southern Lebanon, were detected this morning by a patrol of the Italian contingent of UNIFIL during a logistical movement.
A team of bomb disposal experts from the national contingent, who intervened on site, secured the area but were unable to complete the clean-up operations because, for reasons currently being ascertained, one of the devices went off, causing a fire in the surrounding area.
No damage to people or vehicles was reported.
UNIFIL and the Lebanese authorities are currently investigating to shed light on the dynamics of the events and trace the perpetrators and instigators of the potential threat.
