In recent days, the Italian contingent of UNIFIL, based on the Ariete brigade, has completed and inaugurated an important civil-military cooperation project consisting of the construction of a road that connects the two villages of Yanuh and Maraka, in southern Lebanon.

In particular, the blue helmets have provided for the arrangement of the roadway and the asphalting of about a thousand meters of road, which connects the two localities, making it possible to improve road circulation and guaranteeing greater safety conditions for the inhabitants of the area. The work was directed and coordinated by the CIMIC branch of the Joint Task Force Lebanon.

At the inauguration ceremony the UNIFIL Sector West commander, General Fabio Polli, the president of the union of the Tiro municipalities, Abdel Mohssen El Husseini and the mayor of Yanuh, Alì Youssef Jaber who were present in the his speech, thanked the Italian contingent for their commitment in favor of its citizens, also recalling the works carried out in the past.

Assistance to the local population is one of the main tasks assigned to the UNIFIL contingent by United Nations Resolution 1701, together with monitoring the cessation of hostilities and supporting the Lebanese armed forces, tasks for which the Aries Brigade soldiers have long been prepared at home and carried out here with professionalism, transparency and impartiality.
