Lebanon: change of responsibility at the National Support Element

It took place yesterday at the “Millevoi” base, the headquarters of the command west sector of UNIFIL under Italian leadership, in full compliance with the rules for the containment of COVID-19, the military ceremony of Transfer of Authority (transfer of authority) ofItalian National Support Element (IT NSE) between the 6th general support logistic regiment of Budrio (BO) and the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” logistic regiment of Remanzacco (UD).

The ceremony, held in front of the war flag of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" logistic regiment, was presided over by the commander and the west sector of UNIFIL e Joint Task Force Lebanon, Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, and saw the participation of the mayor of Shama Abdel Kader Safieddine and the Mukthar of Shama Issam Mossen and a representation of Blue Helmets of the sector west of UNIFIL.

Colonel Marco Ventola, outgoing commander, thanked the Italian Blue Helmets for the work done in support of the Italian contingent and for the numerous activities carried out in the six-month mandate; among these, over 6300 hours of work in the workshops (for over 950 work orders) and over 1300 interventions in the maintenance and infrastructural sector.

The commander of the western sector of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Massimiliano Stecca, thanked the military who since last August have worked in the ranks of the IT NSE for the precious contribution provided to all activities, guaranteeing fundamental support for the accomplishment of all the tasks assigned to the Italian contingent in a particularly critical moment for Lebanon which, in addition to dealing with the health emergency due to the pandemic, is going through a difficult time of economic crisis.

The culmination of the ceremony was the passage of the pennant between the releasing commander and the incoming commander Colonel Enzo Dursi.

Il National Support Element is dedicated to supporting the Italian forces employed in Lebanon, and brings together all the assets necessary for the management of national activities to and from the homeland, employing various units including the Joint Multimodal Operation Unit (JMOU), the Infrastructure Management Center (IMC), a platoon of the 7th chemical, bacteriological, radiological and nuclear defense regiment (CBRN), a team of the 3rd engineer regiment of Udine and a team of the 33rd electronic warfare regiment (EW) of Treviso.
