Lebanon: change at the helm of ITALBATT

It took place in the Italian base of Al Mansouri, the change at the helm of ItalBatt, the maneuvering component of the Italian contingent in Lebanon as part of the UNIFIL mission, the United Nations interposition force deployed in southern Lebanon.

Brigadier General Davide Scalabrin, commander of the Sector West of Unifil, sealed the event with the symbolic passage of the United Nations flag between the transferring commander, Colonel Carlo Di Pinto, commander of the 3rd Bersaglieri regiment of Teulada, and the incoming Colonel Paolo Scimone, commander of the "Nizza Cavalleria" regiment (1st).

In the presence of the War Flag of the 3rd Bersaglieri Regiment, the most decorated of the entire Italian Army, and the Stendando of the "Nizza Cavalleria" "(1st), kept in the office of the commander of Italbatt, General Scalabrin wanted thank Colonel Di Pinto "for the efficiency and determination with which the unit has achieved all the objectives of its mission, fulfilling them in a delicate and complex context such as the Lebanese one, made even more difficult due to the health situation".

In addition to the effective and timely rescue brought to the Lebanese capital severely affected by the devastating explosion at the port of Beirut last August 4, and despite the ongoing health emergency, starting from its own settlement Italbatt has conducted almost 8.000 patrols on the territory and along Blue Line, the dividing line that separates Lebanon from Israel, to which are added a thousand joint activities with the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF), in favor of which numerous specialized courses have been carried out.

Equally important was the support activity for the population through the Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), with numerous projects completed in the 22 municipalities located within the ItalBatt Area of ​​Operation.

The incoming Italian Task Force is entirely made up of personnel from the "Taurinense" Alpine Brigade. The unit, powered by men and women of the "Nizza Cavalleria" regiment (1st), reinforced by the "Saluzzo" alpine battalion and the "Taurinense" logistic battalion, will operate for a semester in compliance with UN resolution 1701, ensuring day after day monitoring and control of the cessation of hostilities, ensuring compliance with the ceasefire through checkpoints and observation posts, through patrols in the coastal area south of the city of Tire and along the "Blue Line".
