The activity of the first health teams introduced into Lebanon began yesterday to provide support in the field of health protection, guaranteeing the Lebanese Armed Forces (LAF) targeted consultancy in the specific sector.

In the context of a general situation characterized by a serious economic crisis that amplifies the effects on a system in which medical-health services are very expensive and accessible only to the minority of the population, the Italian Defense has decided to intervene to support the health system of the LAF, which works in favor of a very large catchment area. In fact, in addition to current and retired personnel, it also includes their respective family members, effectively ensuring health care for approximately 15% of the entire Lebanese population with the initial introduction of two health teams, each made up of a medical officer and a a nurse officer.

The joint work between the health personnel entered and the one currently operating in the ambit of the Bilateral training mission in Lebanon (MIBIL) will further consolidate the link between the Italian and Lebanese Armed Forces.

From today, the Italian teams will operate in the Emergency Department of the Military Hospital of Beirut and will start shifts with the local medical and nursing staff.
