The blue helmets of the Italian contingent of Unifil, currently based on the Ariete brigade, have launched a market walks program, that is, patrolling on foot in the market places, in the villages located in their area of operations, in southern Lebanon.

The initiative consists in ensuring the presence and circulation of UN military personnel in the main streets of the villages, in the markets and in the major aggregation centers, in order to increase the perception of security among the population and bring the military component closer to local communities.

The first market walks were conducted by Italbatt's blue helmets, the Italian contingent's maneuvering unit under the orders of Colonel Elio Babbo, and the feedback from the population was positive, welcoming the peacekeepers on the streets.

The market walks program is part of the activities to assist the Lebanese population, which is one of the main tasks established by the UN 1701 resolution, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and the support to the Lebanese armed forces: tasks that the helmets blue of Ariete, commanded by General Fabio Polli, play here with commitment, transparency and impartiality.
