In recent days, the Italian operational company, made up mostly of men and women of the "Garibaldi" sharpshooter brigade and part of the NATO Multinational Battlegroup "Latvia", took part in the "Paladin Strike" exercise, held at the training areas of Camp Ādaži .
The focus of the exercise was the active defense of a position held by a battalion-level unit, first engaging in combat with enemy outposts and then tightening the deployment to defend an area deemed to be of vital interest.
The tactical activities conducted also included the preliminary planning phase of the operation. The objective achieved was to further strengthen cohesion and interoperability between the various units of the battle group.
The maneuver was conducted in a simulated warfighting scenario, carrying out tactical activities in attack and defense, with the deployment of the opposing forces represented by a mechanized infantry company, a tank platoon and an American artillery battery and reinforced by an English scouting platoon.
The challenges of the operational scenario, characterized by numerous hostile factors, were accentuated by the use of emergency procedures in communications and transmission of orders. This required the activation of specific technical-tactical procedures envisaged for an environment with radio disturbances in which communications are hindered by interference resulting from enemy activities, such as jamming and electronic warfare.
La Paladin Strike anticipates another important exercise, the "Silver Arrow", which will be conducted in the first ten days of September by the Latvian mechanized brigade, under which the international battlegroup operates.
