Holidays do not interrupt Predator support

A new dawn illuminates the boundless plains of the Horn of Africa, a new day is about to begin for the Italian staff engaged in the Gibutian theater; in the background, an unmanned "Predator" aircraft belonging to the Italian Air Force detaches the wheels from the runway and takes altitude, ready to perform a new operational flight under the auspices of the European Union.

Once again, the flight crew and all the technical support personnel will employ the aircraft's avionics and sensor technology to ensure the safety of the waters in the Gulf of Aden.

For over four months and with more than 200 flight hours in assets, the MQ-1C "Predator" aircraft of the Atlas Task Group stationed in the small state of Djibouti, participate with valuable missions of Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) to Atalanta European operation, aimed at countering the phenomenon of modern piracy to the detriment of merchant ships in transit in the waters facing the Somali coasts.

Directed by these missions, men and women of the Air Force operate with the pride of those who know they are part of a decisive system in the fight against new forms of threat. They are specialists of the most diverse fields working side by side united by a common goal: pilots, sensor operators, mission supervisors, image analysts, avionics, mechanics, telecommunications experts; but also fathers, wives, children, who will spend these holidays away from the homeland and personal affections to contribute to the stabilization of this area of ​​crisis.

The proximity of the military and political leaders, the support of Italian citizens and the strong group spirit that characterizes the situation of the military engaged in operations abroad, reinforce the motivation of the staff and contribute to make this period of holiday more peaceful far from Dear.
