With a ceremony that took place at the "Camp Arena" flight line, headquarters of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) based on the "Garibaldi" Bersaglieri Brigade under the command of Brigadier General Maurizio Angelo Scardino, the Joint Air Task Force (JATF), under the command of Colonel Paolo Latini, took over the management of Herat airport.

The operation is part of the tactical and logistical arrangements following the passage of the Advanced Support Base (Forward Support Base - FSB) under Italian command (transferred by Spanish colleagues), which took place at the beginning of the year.

During the ceremony the establishment of the "Airfield Management Task Group" (AMTG) was formalized, a newly established multinational unit employed by JATF which, from now on, will carry out the main airport management functions, including the control of air traffic, weather, flight and fire safety, and for the management of the operations that will take place.

General Scardino stressed that the transfer of responsibility falls within the framework of the future sale of the "Camp Arena" facilities and of the airport itself to the Afghan authorities.
