Kuwait: Air Force and Iraqi Air Force in joint training

A joint exercise took place in the skies of Iraq, involving two Italian F-2000 “Eurofighter” aircraft from the task group Typhoon, deployed at the Ali Al Salem air base in Kuwait, home of the Italian National Contingent Command Air, and two Iraqi F-16 aircraft from the 9th and 11th Groups, coming from the Iraqi Air Force base in Balad (Iraq).

The activity of cross training It was carried out within the framework of the “Partner Nation Integration” initiatives, in the context of the multinational mission “Prima Parthica/Ineherent Resolve”. The exercise allowed to test the interoperability of the assets and the joint intervention capabilities, demonstrating the excellent level of regional integration of the National Contingent deployed in Kuwait and Iraq.

At the end of the flight, Colonel Matteo Zuliani, commander of theItalian National Contingent Command Air, after having underlined the importance of the event, a tangible sign of the esteem enjoyed by the Italian Armed Forces and the Air Force, complimented all the personnel of the task group for the capabilities expressed during the exercise, hoping for an increase in cooperation activities with the local Armed Forces, with the aim of supporting and promoting security in the area.

Task group Typhoon

The task group Typhoon, currently operating from the Ali Al Salem base, is part of theItalian National Contingent Command Air – task force Air Kuwait (IT NCC AIR/TFA-K), since March 2019, is among the assets that the Italian Air Force has made available to the international anti-ISIS coalition. The task group Typhoon, operates with tactical reconnaissance functions, using F-2000 “Eurofighter” aircraft. 

THEItalian National Contingent Command Air/task force Air Kuwait, was established on 17 October 2014 and placed under the control - for national aspects - of the Joint Operations Command. It participates in the operation Prima Parthica/Ineherent Resolve within the international anti-ISIS coalition, ensuring unity of command for the synergic and coordinated use of the assets supplied, deployed in Kuwait and Iraq and engaged in ISR, AAR, Airlift, EW, Medevac, PED activities and logistical and administrative support.
