07/12/14

The inauguration of a rural road took place yesterday in Decane, reconditioned and secured by the forces of Kosovo Force (KFOR) in favor of the local population, thanks to the work started following a joint agreement between the mayor of the aforementioned a predominantly Albanian ethnic municipality and the abbot of the religious community of the Serbian Orthodox monastery of Visoki Decani.

In fact, in recent weeks, the multinational logistics component of the NATO mission (the Joint Logistic Support Group - JLSG) has worked with its own men and means finalizing a project financed by Italian funds. The work thus created, which remains within the Special Protected Zone, was made possible following an agreement signed on 1 October 2014 at the Camp Villaggio Italia base between the mayor of Decane mr Rasim Selmanaj and the abbot Fr Sava Janjic, necessary for the start of the works and achieved through an intense mediation between the parties, led by the KFOR forces of the western sector led by the “Lancers of Montebello” regiment, under the orders of Colonel Angelo Minelli.

The inauguration ceremony, in which they were also present, in a context of mutual respect and active cordiality, the mayor of Decane and the abbot of the monastery, was presided over by the commander of KFOR, General Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, who wanted to emphasize: "The realization of the road is proof that when you work together, you can find useful solutions for everyone. The project has an important symbolic meaning as it can represent an example on which to build the future of Kosovo ".

This work to build an existing rural road will allow all citizens of the municipality of Decane to easily and safely reach a mineral water source located behind the monastery, which is believed to possess healing properties, establishing a further approach, concrete as symbolic, between the two counterparts.
