Kosovo: education of the youngest investment for the future

With the symbolic ribbon-cutting ceremony, the Italian soldiers of the Mission in Kosovo inaugurated two CIMIC (Civil Military Cooperation) projects in two schools of the Municipalities of Decane / Decani and Dragas / Dragash.

Both projects are part of a program to support education aimed at combating the phenomenon of early school leaving in primary and secondary schools by encouraging the attendance of young people also by offering sports and recreational facilities.

The planning of the interventions to be carried out has been agreed through the meetings and the continuous dialogue between the soldiers who work within the CIMIC and the managers of the local educational institutions who represent the needs to be met or the deficiencies to be filled.

Specifically, the Italian soldiers of the Mission in Kosovo donated a playground to the "Heronjtè i Dukagjinit" school in the village of Glodjane / Gllogjan in the Municipality of Decane / Decani.

The project was carried out to satisfy the request received by the commander of the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W), based on 8 ° artillery regiment "Pasubio", by Ms Lumnije Avdiaj, director of the Institute in which it was registered an increase in the phenomenon of abandonment.

During the donation ceremony, which was also attended by the councilor for education of the Decane / Decani municipality Mr. Bekim Vishaj, the school director thanked the soldiers of the Kosovo KFOR mission and in particular Colonel Gianfranco Di Marco for having accepted the request and having created the playground that will encourage recreational activity as a tool to strengthen the acquisition of rules and civil coexistence.

The second project, always framed in the field of combating school dropout, was inaugurated at the Shaban Shabani elementary and lower middle school, in the Municipality of Dragas / Dragash, located at the southern end of Kosovo. An institution that counts 90 pupils from the village of Plav consisting of about 160 families.

The school structure did not have spaces dedicated to the practice of physical activity for which, accepting the request received from the councilor for education, Mr. Vloran Cenaj, an outdoor area has been set up where a multipurpose playing field has been set up (football, tennis, basketball and volleyball) with the related sports equipment and a play area for the students of the primary classes. At the ceremony of donation of Italian soldiers in Kosovo, presided over by the commander of the MNBG-W, in addition to the director of the school, Mr. Bahtijar Bojaxhiu took part, the councilor Cenaj, representing the Municipality, and the deputy minister of education Azem Guri, testifying to the solidity of the relations between the KFOR military, the population and the local institutions.
