Kosovo: Change at the Summit of the Multinational Battle Group-West

Yesterday morning at the "Villaggio Italia" base in Belo Polje, home of the Italian contingent in Kosovo, was held the ceremony of rotation of the Multinational Battle Group West (MNBG-W) between the "Lancieri di Montebello" regiment and the 5 regiment Alpine.

Colonel Angelo Minelli, commander of the Lancieri regiment, passed the baton to the parish priest Carlo Cavalli, commander of the 5 ° alpine regiment of Vipiteno (BZ), who after 9 years from his first participation in the Joint Enterprise operation, returns to Kosovo.

The ceremony took place in the presence of the commander of the KFOR mission general Francesco Paolo Figliuolo and of various local political and religious authorities. The commander of KFOR complimented the results achieved by the men and women of the "Green Lancieri", of the 232 ° regiment transmissions of Avellino and foreign colleagues who, with constant and daily dedication, have completed the tasks assigned to them: "You have all represented your nations with great pride and honor," he said. "Colonel Angelo Minelli can be proud of having commanded a multinational force of such professionalism, who has worked and is continuing to work very well for the future of Kosovo. ".

In the past six months, the Italian operating company, in which a Moldavian platoon was also included, was for the first time in the north of the country to patrol the administrative border between Kosovo and Serbia and check the authorized gates and communication routes. unofficial. The unit, equipped with VTLM Lince, used for the first time now also in Kosovo, has contributed to the maintenance of a general climate of safety and freedom of movement, supporting local police forces.

The "Lancieri di Montebello" have also started and completed a reshaping project of the services carried out by the Italian, Slovenian and Austrian companies of the MNBG-W in order to allow a rotation that would distribute the tasks equally. Thanks to this greater integration between all the forces of the MNBG-W, the Italian company has been released from purely static tasks in the western sector only, in defense of the Decane monastery and in controlling its own area of ​​responsibility, for the benefit of greater dynamism .

There have also been numerous civil-military co-operation activities carried out in favor of the various ethnic groups and religions present on the territory, with the sole aim of contributing to improving the living conditions of the local population.

The 5 ° Alpine Regiment, integrated in this new experience by a company of the 2 ° Alpine transmission regiment of Bolzano, has carried out numerous operations at home of the competition to the police and to rescue the populations struck by natural disasters, as well as to the abroad in the Joint Forge operation in Bosnia-Herzegovina (2004), in the Joint Enterprise in Kosovo (2005), and twice in the ISAF operation in Afghanistan (2007 and 2010-2011).
