It concluded, at theinfantry training centre Atrush, in Iraqi Kurdistan, the “Mountain Warfare" course for 18 Peshmerga of the Kurdish Armed Forces. The course was conducted by the Italian soldiers of the mobile training team, part of the “Prima Parthica" operation.
During the three-week course, the attendees received training on all the main combat scenarios in mountainous environments. Combat training was combined with learning the main rock techniques, which enabled the soldiers to move easily even on steep and rugged terrain. The course focused on the correct use of equipment and harnesses in safety, on overcoming vertical obstacles and on the procedures for descending and ascending rock faces.
At the end of the activity, the trained Peshmerga took part in a final exercise which saw them engaged in carrying out live fire activities in an impervious environment and in crossing rock faces and rivers.
The commander of the Italian National Contingent Command-Land, Colonel Ciro Forte, wanted to congratulate the participants for their commitment and the results achieved, expressing his satisfaction and personally participating in the certificate delivery ceremony.
The training of the Kurdish Security Forces is part of the activities conducted by the Italian contingent deployed in Erbil as part of the “Prima Parthica” operation, committed to supporting the Iraqi and Kurdish authorities with the final objective of training self-sufficiency, to definitively face the threat of Daesh.
