In recent days, a short ceremony was held at Camp Arena, the headquarters of the Italian contingent of the mission in Afghanistan, for the relocation of a plaque and the title of the premises of the workshop to maintain light vehicles of the base in memory of the corporal chief chief Gaetano Tuccillo, then effective at the "Ariete" Logistics Battalion, who fell victim to an attack during an operational activity in 2011.

The initiative, promoted and implemented in collaboration with theNational Association of Italian Airmen section of Maniago, in addition to remembering the sacrifice of the young man, intended to witness the deep attachment of the drivers of the "Aries", currently deployed in the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W) of Herat, for the unfortunate colleague, one of the fifty-four Italian soldiers killed in operations in Afghanistan.

On July 2, 2011, the graduate fell victim to an improvised device that exploded when a patrol of the Italian contingent engaged in the ISAF operation passed near the village of Bakwa in western Afghanistan. Following the tragic event, the Cross of Honor for the victims of terrorism was conferred on Tuccillo's memory by decree of the President of the Republic.

The commander of the TAAC-W, Brigadier General Enrico Barduani, present at today's ceremony thanked the staff of the logistic regiment "Aries" for the initiative, underlining the importance of preserving and enhancing the memory of those who, for the 'fulfillment of their duty, they sacrificed their most precious asset.

The NATO "Resolute Support" mission is currently made up of soldiers from thirty-nine nations, with the aim of contributing to the training, assistance and advice for the Afghan institutions and security forces in order to make them self-sufficient and capable. to independently guarantee the security of the country and its citizens.

The Italian contribution, expressed with personnel and means of the Army, Air Force, Navy and Carabinieri, has so far allowed the western region of Afghanistan to reach among the highest safety and development standards in the country.
