The Offshore Patrol Vessel Commander Borsini left the port of Augusta to reach the Gulf of Guinea, the area of interest of the Operation Gabinia, anti-piracy activities in which it will take part until the end of the year.
The class patroller Commanders, which in the last period has bestowed all its energies during a short but very intense period of technical stopover aimed at dealing in the best possible way with the dangers and difficulties that the area of interest foresees, is now ready to sail the waters of the Ocean for the next three months, especially strong in the experience gained during its two previous commitments in the same Operation, in order to guarantee freedom of navigation and the safety of the maritime lines of communication.
The close connection with the Mediterranean and the inevitable national interests that result from it make the Gulf of Guinea a particularly relevant area for our country from both an economic and geopolitical point of view.
Focus on maritime safety, but not only. The activities will also be plentiful in the context of cooperation with the Navies of the coastal countries and in humanitarian and solidarity support for the local populations: Ship Borsini, in fact, left Augusta with a load of medicines and humanitarian goods of various kinds offered by the Italian population and by associations such as "Il Sorriso che Vorrei" and the Italian Red Cross, to be delivered and donated during stops in some ports of West Africa.
