Unifil's force commander visits the Italian-led sector west

Near the end of its mandate, the UNIFIL force commander and head of mission, general Paolo Serra, visited today at the Millevoi base in Shama, the headquarters of the Lebanon sector west - joint task force and the Italian contingent.

Accepted on arrival by the commander of the sector, general Fabio Polli, the high officer received updates on the main activities of the blue helmets and on developments in the operational situation in the Italian leadership area.

Subsequently, in meeting the commanders of the units of the sector west, General Serra emphasized, once again, the importance of the work carried out by Unifil, highlighting the results achieved in recent years in the implementation of the 1701 Resolution, in particular in the support to the Lebanese armed forces, in assisting the local population and monitoring the cessation of hostilities. He then thanked the staff of all nations for their commitment in the mission, urging them to continue their efforts in favor of security and peace in this delicate area of ​​the Middle East.

In addition to Italy, the west sector of UNIFIL includes contingents from Finland, Ireland, Ghana, Malaysia, South Korea, Slovenia, Tanzania and Brunei, for a total of approximately 3200 peacekeepers.

Currently the Sector Command is entrusted to the 132 ^ ARIETE Armored Brigade.
