Unifil's sector west c.te meets the mayors of the province of Tire

The intense program of meetings with the Lebanese local authorities organized by the UNIFIL peacekeepers continues, to consolidate the good relations existing between the peacekeepers and the communities of the area where the mission is deployed.

In recent days, the commander of Sector West, general Fabio Polli, met the mayors of the province of Tiro at the Millevoi base in Shama, an area where the Italian contingent operates, currently composed of personnel belonging, mainly, to the Ariete brigade.

The initiative, which was attended by the representatives of the seventy-five municipalities of the Tire district, led by the President of the Union, Abdul Mohsen Al Husseini, was also an opportunity for a fruitful exchange of information, useful for planning future interventions in the areas of security and civil-military collaboration in that area.

During the meeting, President Al Husseini expressed his gratitude to General Polli for the proximity and continuous attention of the Italian contingent towards the Lebanese population, underlining the profound historical link between the two nations separated only by the Mediterranean Sea .

Support to local authorities and assistance to the population are among the main tasks assigned to UNIFIL by the UN 1701 resolution, together with monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and support to the Lebanese armed forces, tasks for which the military of the Aries brigade , for the fourth time employed in the Land of the Cedars, they have long been trained and prepared.
