The Italian Carrier Strike Group's stopover in Manila, Philippines, from 3 to 8 September was focused on the humanitarian initiative organized in agreement with Smile House ETS Foundation.
On this occasion, the aircraft carrier Cavour, engaged in the Indo-Pacific deployment with the frigate Alpine and the PPA (Multipurpose Combat Ship) Montecuccoli, highlighted the ability to support the population thanks to the potential of its modern hospital area where the organization's volunteer surgeons led by Professor Domenico Scopelliti, with the assistance of the Armed Forces' health service personnel on board, performed 7 maxillofacial and plastic and reconstructive surgery operations on small patients with malformations.
The interventions involved the entire crew on a logistical level, but above all on an emotional level.
During the deployment in the Indo-Pacific there will be two other events that will see the Navy and the Smile House ETS Foundation: in Goa (India) and Karachi (Pakistan).
The stopover in Manila began with the change of command of the ship Alpine, passed from frigate captain Salvatore Santangelo to frigate captain Davide Cervellera; and continued with theItalian Defense Forum Industries, initiative of the General Secretariat of Defense and National Armaments Directorate and the Federation of Italian Companies for Aerospace, Defense and Security (AIAD), introduced by the Italian Ambassador-designate to Manila, Davide Giglio, and open to representatives of the defense sector of the Philippines.
Finally, the visit of the commander of the Navy Schools Command, Admiral Antonio Natale, who had the opportunity to meet the 2nd class students of the Naval Academy, embarked on the units of the Italian Carrier Strike Group for the annual training campaign.
