The Serbian SMD chief meets the KFOR commander in Pristina

The commander of KFOR, divisional general Salvatore Farina, received in recent days the visit of general Serbia's chief of defense Ljubisa DIKOVIC to the military base of Camp Film City, headquarters of the KFOR command in Pristna in Kosovo.

The meeting is part of the program of regular high-level talks under the so-called Military-Technical Agreement (Military Technical Agreement) otherwise known as the "Kumanovo Treaty" signed in the 1999 on the eve of the entry of NATO troops into Kosovo.

It is the fifth time that General Farina meets Serbian chief of staff since he took command of Kosovo FORce in September of last year.

During the meeting between the two generals, important current issues were dealt with, such as the security situation in Kosovo and the Balkans area and the important role played by the KFOR units in support of the Kosovo Police and the agents of the EULEX EU.

General Farina then updated General Dikovic on the many activities that the multinational force leads to in Kosovo, pointing out that the trend is very positive with regard to security conditions throughout the territory including the north, where KFOR continues to maintain a permanent presence to ensure a safe environment and the necessary freedom of movement for all citizens and international and local organizations operating in that part of the territory.

During the meeting, the important issue of monitoring the Administrative Boundary Line that separates Kosovo from Serbia according to the provisions of the aforementioned MTA was also addressed.

In this case the commander of KFOR has confirmed that the situation is calm and stable along the approximately 350 kilometers of the ABL.

In summary, no major incidents, special events or violations that have put into question the safety and freedom of movement have been recorded recently: the constant monitoring activity carried out by the multinational forces of KFOR, the excellent level of cooperation between the members of the KFOR belonging to the Joint Military Commission (Joint Military Commission) and the counterparts of the armed forces of Serbia (Serbian armed forces), as well as the activities of "synchronized patrolling" carried out daily along the ABL by the military of KFOR and those of the SAF have contributed to maintain a serene, positive and cooperative atmosphere.

The two senior officers have confirmed that this fruitful cooperation is destined to continue in the future.

During the working lunch the two commanders also discussed the important cooperation between KFOR SAF in the broader framework of synergy of intent with the other armed forces of neighboring countries in order to improve the general security situation in the wider area of ​​the Balkans .

In the afternoon, on the sidelines of the meeting, in the base of Camp Bondsteel headquarters of the command of the Multinational Battle Group East, a soccer friendly match was played between the KFOR team and the SAF team that ended 4 at 1 in favor of Serbian military team, an informal opportunity strongly favored by the two commanders to improve mutual trust. This was the result of a "return" after the first game in Serbia last April and won by the Serbian team with the result of 3-1.

As part of the MTA, the commander of KFOR regularly meets with the Chief of Staff of the defense of the four neighboring countries the area of ​​responsibility of KFOR namely Albania, FYROM, Montenegro and Serbia.

Over the past few months, General Farina has visited Belgrade, Tirana, Skopje and Podgorica and has, on the other hand, hosted the Chief of Staff of the Serbian Defense in January, the Chief of Staff of the defense of Albania last March and the chief of staff of the defense of FYROM in April.
