November 4 in Lebanon

06/11/14

The Italian blue helmets, engaged in Lebanon in the "Leonte 17" operation, celebrated National Unity and Armed Forces Day. Recalling and honoring the memory of all those who sacrificed, over time, the supreme good of life for Italy.

The sober celebration culminated with the deposition of a laurel wreath in memory of all the fallen in arms; it was a very significant moment for the personnel of the Italian contingent that, during the day, has maintained the operational activities unchanged in compliance with the mandate and the focus set by the 1701 resolution.

The commander of the contingent of the Sector West of UNIFIL, Brigadier General Stefano Del Col, recalled, in the presence of the representatives of the foreign contingents included in the Italian-led sector, that "the value of solidarity" that distinguishes the Italian military has brought out a model much appreciated in the international sphere and which characterizes the "modus operandi" of the defense actors. This model is the son of that extraordinary sacrifice that 96 years ago completed the unification of Italy.

In Lebanon there are around 1100 Italian soldiers, constantly engaged in the control of the cessation of all hostilities in the south of the country and in support of the Lebanese Armed Forces, providing civil and military cooperation to improve the living conditions of the population and to create prerequisites for rapid sustainable economic development in the southern area of the land of the Cedars.
