The Italian blue helmets receive the United Nations Medal

Over 250 UN medals delivered in recent days to the blue helmets of Sector West. A representation of the over 1000 peacekeepers of the Italian Army and almost 3000 colleagues from the 15 nations engaged in southern Lebanon under Italian command.

The Medal Parade is the ceremony that establishes the commitment of men and women, their service under the aegis of the United Nations, their competence and professionalism in favor of the community.

“The award of the UN Medal is now enriched with meaning - recalled the commander of Sector West, Brigadier General Diego Filippo Fulco - you have shown a spirit of sacrifice, flexibility and adaptability, characteristics that have allowed you, have allowed us to live up to our mandate despite the difficulties dictated by the health emergency which has confronted us with new and unpredictable problems. "

The UN Medal symbolically contains the over 250 daily activities, the 50 patrols on the Blue Line, the more than 1300 civil-military cooperation projects, the support to the Lebanese Armed Forces but also the many multinational exercises, the aid to the population, the safeguard of stability and the commitment to security, in a word peacekeeping.
