10/09/14

In recent days, Italian blue helmets handed over medical supplies and hospital equipment to the Red Cross of Tire. The civil-military cooperation (CIMIC) activity in support of the Lebanese population was carried out by the "Lancieri di Novara" of ITALBATT, the maneuvering unit of the Joint Task Force Lebanon, currently based on the "Ariete" brigade.

The initiative, which was attended by the commander of ITALBATT, Colonel Elio Babbo, was made possible thanks to the collaboration of the Triveneto delegations of two prestigious associations: the International Association Regina Elena Humanitarian Aid Onlus and the Sacred Constantinian Order of Saint George.

The director of the Red Cross of Tire, Muzaian Seclawi, thanked the Italians for the generosity and constant attention to the Lebanese population during the simple ceremony of delivery of the material.

Assistance to the local population is one of the most important activities carried out by UNIFIL and is foreseen by the UN 1701 Resolution, together with the monitoring of the cessation of hostilities and the support to the Lebanese armed forces.
