Djibouti: CIMIC activity carried out by BMIS

The commander of the Italian Military Support Base (BMIS) in Djibouti, col. Michele Ask, assisted by his own CIMIC cell, went to the registry offices of the municipality of Boulaos, one of the largest and most populous in the city of Djibouti, for the delivery ceremony of six office cabinets.

The donated material will allow a significant improvement in the population census service offered to the population, which, consequently, will be able to receive better assistance from the municipal offices.

The president of the municipality, Mohamed Omar Ismael, present at the ceremony, underlined how important and welcome the presence of the Italian contingent in the area is and how much the Italian soldiers have shown their closeness and interest towards the population and the local civil administration .

The activity was carried out in full compliance with the limitations imposed by the Djiboutian Ministry of Health to counter the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic.

La Italian Military Support Base of Djibouti, made up of personnel from the four Armed Forces, is located in an area of ​​Africa, a strategic crossroads for maritime communication lines that head from the Mediterranean area, through the Suez Canal, to the Persian Gulf, the South East Asia and South Africa and vice versa.

The mission of BMIS, the only national example of the kind deployed on the African continent, is to provide logistical support to all those national components in transit on the territory of Djibouti engaged in the Horn of Africa and in the Indian Ocean, with particular reference to the MIADIT, EUTM Missions Somalia and EUNAVFOR ATALANTA.
