Multinational exercise at the Decani monastery

23/09/14

The soldiers of the Multinational Battle Group-West (MNBG-W), Italian-led command responsible for the protection of the Visoki Decani monastery in Kosovo, have just completed an exercise aimed at verifying the command and control capacity, the coordination procedures as well as staff readiness and efficiency.

The hypothesized scenario envisaged that the Italian soldiers, guarding the monastery, should face a hostile crowd, activating the procedures to increase the protection of the site, by means of reinforcement units brought by helicopter to the site.

The simulation included a "crowd control" phase, implemented by the Italian and Moldovan military of the MNBG-W in order by public order.

The Moldovan contingent, in Kosovo since September 8 and already promptly employed, is placed in the Italian company.

The entire safety device showed excellent preparation and interoperability, proving to be a prompt and effective response tool.

The Italian company of the MNBG-W returned to work at the Decani monastery after having been posted in the north of the country according to the principle of "Kosovo-wide", according to which the units of the MNBG-W are used throughout the territory of Kosovo, allowing full integration of the forces in the field, and increasing their flexibility and professionalism.
