Gulf of Lion. As of 02 October 2020, Ship Louis Durand de La Penne is engaged in the multinational exercise DYNAMIC MARINER 2020, as part of Task Group 445.05, together with units of the French and Spanish Navies.

The DYNAMIC MARINER exercise, in which the forces involved compete in "opposing parties" training activities, includes three different phases: a first CET (Certification Evaluation Training) phase, which took place from 28 September to 01 October , a second FIT (Force Integration Training) phase, which took place from 2 to 4 October, and a subsequent TACEX (Tactical Exercise) phase that will involve the forces involved until 9 October.

During the FIT Nave phase Durand de La Penne, along with the Spanish frigate Alvaro de Bazán (commander of TG 455.05) and the French frigates Sourcuf e Guepratte, conducted training activities such as lateral refueling, exercises among the Combat Operations Centers and Anti-Air Defense Electronic Warfare (ADEX) exercises.

During the TACEX phase the exercises will continue simulating a conflict between the "BLUE" forces (which also includes Nave Durand de La Penne) and the enemy forces "RED": in this phase, in order to maximize the training return, realism will be emphasized in all activities.

The DYNAMIC MARINER 2020, an event in which the Navy does not fail to participate every year, aims to test the operational readiness of the NATO RESPONSE FORCE (NRF) and to certify the suitability of the future NRF commander, which in 2021 will be ensured by France: it represents a precious opportunity to increase the level of training of the crews involved, consolidate naval diplomacy and increase interoperability with the units of other NATO navies.
