Training for RAID operators on special operational techniques for high-risk interventions, conducted at the "Idriss Farah Abaneh" Police Academy, in Djibouti, by the instructors of the Italian Training Mission MIADIT Somalia17 ends with today's exercise.

The course, structured over 4 weeks, has conferred to the attendants, future operators, skills on intervention techniques in limited environments (CQB - Close Quarter Battle), in particular on the different procedures of approaching the team to a goal, on the techniques of breaking in and mopping up as well as planning an operational intervention.

During these activities, the RAID operators were supported by the canine component, also part of the Special Police Department of Gibutina.

The training cycle carried out during this course was also extended to other activities aimed at expanding the operational scenarios of intervention including the safe blocking of a car with consequent arrest of the occupants seen as dangerous criminals, the management, the conduct of a action aimed at neutralizing a sniper (Active Shooter) and notions and techniques related to TOS (special operational techniques), including among other things “urban climbing” activities and intervention with K9 units (dog lovers).

The K9 course took place on three training lines directly aimed at providing the basic skills for the specialties present within the "canine brigade" of the Gibutian National Police or Dog Attack, Anti-drug and Anti-explosive Unit.

Theoretical notions were given to all the visitors with periods dedicated to the individual specialties. The practical part, relating to the theoretical exercises, was dedicated to the development of the skills necessary for the individual specializations, with particular reference to the Attack Canine Units that will operate in support of the operational teams of the RAID, in the perspective of a more specific training as " Canine for Special Operations ".

The training activity was mainly addressed to an essentially practical “cut”, in order to physically and mentally train the operators who must adapt to the various scenarios that, in reality, could actually be called upon to face.

The scenarios represented in the exercise are only a small and limited practical demonstration of the countless possible scenarios that could materialize during a crisis situation.

The MIADIT - Somalia mission is the result of a trilateral cooperation agreement between the Italian, Somali and Djibouti states. It is aimed at promoting the stability and security of Somalia and the entire region of the Horn of Africa, increasing the capacities in the field of security and control of the territory by the Somali Police Forces and the maintenance and development of security conditions. of the Republic of Djibouti by the Police and Gendarmerie.

All the activities carried out in the operational theater are conducted under the coordination and according to the directives given by the Interoperable Summit Operations Command (COVI), led by the general of the army corps Francesco Paolo Figliuolo, who is the top command of the joint operational area and also performs the functions of staff body of the Chief of Defense.
