Carabinieri deployed at Rafah border crossing: EUBAM mission underway

The Carabinieri sent from Italy to participate in the European Union Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) have reached the Rafah crossing, where they operate under the Strength of the European Gendarmerie (EUROGENDFOR) in support of the mission.

The Italian military is operating in a context of humanitarian emergency and has the task of coordinating and facilitating the transit between the Gaza Strip and Egypt of the wounded and sick Palestinians, up to a maximum of 300 per day, guaranteeing them assistance and protection.

EUBAM-Rafah was initiated by the European Union at the request of Israel and the Palestinian Authority, with the full support of Egypt.

In recent days, the Defense, through the operational command of interforce forces, coordinated the transfer to Rafah of the Carabinieri and soldiers of the Spanish Guardia Civil and the French Gendarmerie (twenty in total), part of the international force.

EUBAM Rafah is a concrete measure to support the recent ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

Italy promptly supported the initiative, confirming its closeness and solidarity towards the population in difficulty, severely tested by the recent conflict, in line with the fundamental values ​​of humanitarian law.
