Bulgaria, the “Centuria 24” exercise for the FLF BG ends

The exercise “Centuria 24” aimed at testing the operational capabilities of the task group of the Novo Selo Training Area in Mokren has ended. Forward Land Force battle group (FLF BG) Italian-led unit deployed in Bulgaria.

Over 300 soldiers from the FLF BG, commanded by Colonel Federico Maddaluno, took part in the complex multinational exercise. During the training, combat vehicles and combat support platforms supplied to the various NATO assets deployed at the Novo Selo base were used in unison, in a framework of synchronization and interoperability. The joint training included simulations of complex scenarios, shooting exercises and multinational training activities, designed to refine the tactical and operational skills of the participating states that constitute the battle group.

The fire activity, aimed at identifying and neutralizing enemy units through braking, arresting and counterattacking actions in a high intensity conventional combat scenario (warfighting), saw both foot and motorized troops move on the ground as well as platoon and company level command posts.

The training focused on the synchronization and combined use of the various assets combat, service support e combat service support under the battle group in order to increase the level of integration and validate common operational procedures aimed at making the intervention of the Allied Forces faster and more streamlined in case of need.

The NATO mission conducted by the national contingent is defensive in nature, proportionate and fully in line with the international commitment of the Atlantic Alliance which intends to strengthen the principles of deterrence and defence, against potential threats and defence of Euro-Atlantic spaces.
