(To Greater Defense)
29/03/23

The joint "Caprera" exercise, conducted by Italian and Bulgarian units under the Multinational Battle Group Bulgaria

The activity, which involved Italian infantry, artillery and engineering units and Bulgarian mechanized infantry units, had the training objective of implementing an offensive action against multiple enemy positions.

The exercise, divided into several phases, saw the use of sniper teams, of the anti-tank platoon and scouts, which carried out activities to protect the deployment and acquire information on the threat.
Medium and heavy infantry companies then advanced on the ground, supported by artillery fire, while the engineering component allowed, during the movement of the infantry units, the opening of a gap inside a supposed minefield.

In the continuation of the activity, the heavy mortar platoon and three mechanized infantry platoons also intervened, two with the aim of disorganizing the defenses and one with the task of clearing the final intervention area.
Finally, by simulating the discovery and explosion of a container of potentially risky material, adjacent to the position of the mechanized infantry platoons, the CBRN (Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear) component was also exercised with the setting up of a point of decontamination.

In all phases of the manoeuvre, the anti-aircraft artillery company ensured air defense for all units exerted.

About 400 soldiers (Italian and Bulgarian) and 29 tactical vehicles were used to carry out the exercise, including Arrowarmored "mortar holder" and "SPIKE" versions Lynx 2, VM90, PZH-2000, Blindo Centaur 1 and Bulgarian MT-LB.
