Bangui: The commitment of Alpine engineers in the EUFOR-RCA European mission

Bangui (Central African Republic), the Italian military have built and put into operation in the space of three days a light metal bridge by means of which the pedestrian and vehicle traffic was restored in a neighborhood of Bangui, near the airport.

The structure created by the metal working laboratory was expressly requested by the neighborhood community to facilitate the transit of agricultural products in the area to the markets of the Central African capital, with a considerable saving of time and greater safety.

To the laying of the bridge, which took place through special machines of the genius, numerous inhabitants of the district also collaborated, which helped to delimit the area of ​​the construction site and closed the transit of pedestrians, motorcycles and cars for the entire duration of the operations.

For alpine engineers, this is the first project carried out within the European EUFOR RCA mission. In the next weeks the soldiers of the Regiment of the "Julia" Brigade will begin the construction of a twenty-meter metal bridge that will bring together two districts of the Central African capital divided by the civil war.
