The Defense continues its commitment to support the Palestinian civilian population, to ensure the transport of humanitarian aid and to strengthen the current truce.
Today, in fact, with the take-off of two Army NH 2 helicopters from the “King Abdullah II” air base in Zarqa, the joint operation “Air bridge for Gaza” began, which sees the participation of personnel and air assets from Jordan and Italy.
The Minister of Defense, Guido Crosetto, declared: "Even if not easy to achieve, this is another important demonstration of the commitment to the civilian population of Gaza by the Government, the Defense and Italy. Our goal is to provide concrete and immediate help to alleviate, at least in part, the suffering caused by the ongoing conflict and which only today finally sees a truce. Precisely because we know how difficult it is to achieve peace in the full sense of the term and precisely because we know how fragile and precarious a truce can be, the cessation of hostilities, which are a minimum but indispensable prerequisite for true peace, we firmly believe in dialogue and cooperation as essential tools to reduce the current crisis and bring hope to those living in conditions of extreme difficulty. At this time it is necessary to consolidate the truce, help those who suffer and save human lives. In this context, collaboration with Jordan is also fundamental, a strategic partner to continue building peace".
The humanitarian initiative was born from the common will of the President of the Council of Ministers, Giorgia Meloni, and His Majesty King Abdullah II of Jordan.
The operation, coordinated for national aspects by the Joint Operations Command (COVI), involves the deployment in Jordan of the "Levante" Task Force, an Italian Defence joint unit composed of a C-130J aircraft of the Italian Air Force and two NH90 helicopters of the Army Aviation.
This operation is part of a broader framework of initiatives in favor of the Palestinian population. Among these, the transportation of basic necessities with Air Force aircraft, the health care provided by Nave Volcano of the Navy and the transfers to Italy of Palestinian children in need of medical care thanks to air-naval assets made available by the Ministry of Defence.
