As part of the mission in Afghanistan, the Italian contingent of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), currently under the leadership of the 132nd “Ariete” armored brigade, has completed an important CIMIC civil-military cooperation project in favor of the community of Guzarah, district of the province of Herat where the Camp Arena base is located.
As part of the project, the premises that house the command of the local police were renovated and furniture and computer materials were donated to ensure the performance of the school's activities.
The activity, organized and conducted by the CIMIC (Civil-Military Cooperation) staff of the TAAC-W, is part of the numerous assistance projects promoted by the contingent in terms of support to Afghan institutions and civil society. Specifically, the project in favor of the Guzarah Police is one of the activities in support of institutions operating in the sector of security and protection of Afghan citizens.
During the ceremony organized, in compliance with the measures imposed by the COVID-19 emergency, on the occasion of the end of the works and the delivery of materials, the commander of the TAAC-W, Brigadier General Enrico Barduani wanted to emphasize the importance of the work carried out by Police personnel for the improvement of living conditions in Afghan society, especially in a difficult moment such as the current one aggravated by the consequences of the pandemic, expressing appreciation for the commitment made by the staff in guaranteeing protection and assistance to the inhabitants of Guzarah.
“Through this project which will allow to increase the security services for the citizens of Guzarah - said the commander of TAAC W - the Italian contingent once again wants to demonstrate its closeness and support to the population of Afghanistan, engaged in building a healthy and prosperous society ".
The district chief of Guzarah, engineer Shir Agha Sarwari and the commander of the Guzarah Police, Colonel Al Haj Abdul Salam Azimi, in recalling how the Italian contingent has constantly supported in recent years, with numerous projects, the local communities, thanked for the works carried out, expressing gratitude for the support and assistance that the Italian Armed Forces provide to the institutions of their country.
Supporting the population, with particular reference to the most vulnerable sections of society, is one of the activities alongside the main training, consultancy and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, conducted by the advisors Italians, to increase functionality and self-supporting ability.
