As part of the civil-military cooperation projects developed for the benefit of the Afghan local communities, the Italian contingent of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), currently leading the 132nd armored brigade "Ariete", has completed these days an important activity in favor of the female orphanage of Herat, historic city institution that deals with marginalized childcare.

In particular, thanks to the Italian initiative, some extraordinary infrastructure maintenance works were carried out and work was carried out on the electrical and hydraulic systems in the building that houses the dormitory and the classrooms for the study.

The activity, organized and conducted by TAAC-W CIMIC (Civil-Military Cooperation) staff, is part of the numerous assistance projects promoted by the contingent in terms of support for Afghan institutions and civil society. Specifically, the project in favor of the female orphanage in Herat is part of the activities in support of the institutions that work for the care and protection of unattended minors.

The TAAC-W commander, Brigadier General of the Army Enrico Barduani, in delivering the commemorative plaque, which was affixed to the entrance of the structure, wanted to emphasize the importance of the work done by the Social Affairs Department of the Province of Herat for the improvement of the living conditions of the Afghan population, expressing in particular appreciation for the efforts made in favor of the weakest sections of the local community such as, in this case, the girls who were left without families.

“With this concrete gesture of attention in favor of the female orphanage of Herat - said the commander of TAAC-WEST - the Italian contingent wants to further demonstrate its closeness and support to the population of Afghanistan, engaged in the difficult path of building a solid and prosperous future for their society ".

The head of the Social Affairs Department of Herat, Abdul Qayoum Afghan, and the general manager of the orphanage, Abdul Razeq Zamanzoy, in remembering how the Italian contingent has constantly supported in recent years, with various initiatives, the different structures of the region that deal with orphans, thanked warmly for the work carried out, expressing gratitude for the support and assistance that the Italian Armed Forces provide to the institutions of their country.

Supporting the population, with particular reference to the most vulnerable sections of society, is one of the activities alongside the main training, consultancy and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces, conducted by Italian advisors, to increase functionality and self-sustaining capacity.

The TAAC-W, an Italian-led NATO command, in which men and women of the Italian Army and other Armed Forces operate, is responsible for the "Resolute Support" operation of the western part of Afghanistan, which includes the provinces Herat, Badghis, Farah and Ghor, for a territorial extension equal to the whole of Northern Italy and a population of about four million inhabitants.

The Command is made up of soldiers from 8 nations (Albania, Hungary, Lithuania, Romania, Slovenia, Ukraine, United States of America, as well as Italy) who operate with the aim of contributing to training, assistance and consultancy in favor of the Afghan institutions and security forces, committed to creating adequate conditions of security and prosperity for the local population.
