Afghanistan: fight against improvised explosive devices

The Train Advise and Assist Command West (TAAC-W) of Herat, NATO multinational command based on the "Pinerolo" brigade framed in the mission Resolute Support (RS), organized a course to train Afghan National Defense Security Forces in the use of techniques and procedures for the collection of potential evidence, for the subsequent forensic analysis, following attacks or discoveries of IED, Improvised Explosive Devices (ordnance improvised explosives).

In particular, highly specialized personnel of the Italian Contingent with the help of US civilian instructors, through targeted training, have increased the capabilities and skills of the Afghan Security Forces both in carrying out investigative activities and in the application of procedures aimed at mitigation the risk deriving from improvised devices.

The participants, in addition to having acquired the specific skills of the sector, have also obtained the qualification of Instructors.

In addition, the Italian military have built and assembled for the occasion, at no cost thanks to the use of waste material, a Instructor Tactical Exploitation kit that was donated to the students. This aid will allow the new instructors to conduct the teaching activity and transmit the acquired knowledge with greater incisiveness.

The work of the advisors Italians is part of the NATO mission Resolute Support (RS) with the main task of providing training, advice and assistance to the Afghan Security Forces to improve their functionality and their ability to self-sustain themselves.
