Afghanistan: the gen. Zanelli meets the Australian ambassador

Deputy Commander of the NATO mission in Afghanistan Resolute Support (RS), general of the Italian Army Corps Nicola Zanelli, met the Australian ambassador to Afghanistan, Paul Wojciechowski, and the commander of the Joint Task Force (JTF) 633, Rear Admiral Michael Rothwell of the Royal Australian Navy.

At the meeting, held at Camp Resolute Support and which was also attended by gen. b. Todd Ashurst ofAustralian Senior National Representative in the RS mission, the operational situation in Afghanistan and the cooperation between the Italian and Australian national contingent were discussed.

Ambassador Wojciechowski appreciated the work done by the military engaged in the RS mission to improve the functionality and self-sustaining capacity of the Afghan National Defense Security Forces (ANDSF) to independently safeguard the country and its citizens.

General Zanelli and Rear Admiral Rothwell, who as commander of JTF 633 is responsible for the Australian troops deployed in the Middle East, mutually expressed words of esteem for the work done by the Australian and Italian soldiers.

There are about 9500 NATO soldiers, coming from 36 Allied and partner countries, engaged in the training, advice and assistance of ANDSF within the RS Mission.

The Australian Defense Force contributes to the RS Mission with about 80 men and women who are involved in the train, advise and assist (TAA) of the ANDSF and hold staff positions at various levels of order.

The Italian soldiers are over 800, employed in Herat, at the helm of the Train, Advise and Assist Command West (TAAC-W), and Kabul, within the command of the mission itself.
