30/06/14

A new clinic was inaugurated last Saturday in the district of Baba and Barq, in Herat, by the Italian soldiers of the Regional Command West, the Italian-led ISAF command based on the brigade "Sassari".

The structure is equipped with all primary health services and will guarantee adequate medical assistance to the inhabitants of a particularly populous area of the city, still lacking an adequate health system. The hospital unit, directed by Dr. Fariba, consists of a large main entrance that also serves as a waiting room, a wing designed to accommodate women and children and another, including general services, reserved for male staff.

The project is part of the health sector development plan carried out by Italian soldiers of civil-military cooperation in collaboration with the health department of the province of Herat.

The local authorities thanked those present for the proximity and the usual attention of the Regional Command West to meeting the health needs in the province of Herat. "The right of every citizen to health and with it to education and justice" - has underlined the commander of the Regional Command West, General Manlio Scopigno - “it is fundamental for the well-being and prosperity of the country. These are the cornerstones for the elevation of the dignity of the individual in every society and therefore of primary interest also for the entire Afghan people ”.

The structure is added to the other 44 clinics built in the province of Herat by the Provincial Reconstruction Team (PRT), the civil and military component of the Italian ISAF contingent that last 25 March, after 9 years of presence in the homonymous province, has officially concluded its mandate.
