Afghanistan: Personnel Recovery exercise

The Italian contingent of the Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), currently based on the 132nd "Ariete" armored brigade under the command of Brigadier General Enrico Barduani, has conducted in recent days, at the Camp Arena base, a search and rescue exercise for missing personnel (Personnel Recovery) in daytime environment and conditions not permissive.

The activity was carried out by the rotary wing of the "Fenice" Task Group, in detail two AH-129D exploration and escort helicopters and two UH-90A multirole helicopters, an airborne team specialized in Personnel Recovery, and JTAC (Joint Terminal Attack Controller) elements, in addition to the necessary health and safety components.

The exercise, coordinated by the TAAC-W operating room, which availed itself, for the monitoring of the different phases of the activity, of the support provided by the Tactical Unmanned Aerial Vehicle "Shadow-200" developed in the first phase of planning and expeditious processing of orders, and in the following phase, which culminated in the recovery of military personnel who had fallen victim to a simulated plane crash.

The activity also allowed participants to test and refine techniques and procedures Personnel Recovery in the operating theater and assess the compliance of the intervention criteria with doctrinal standards.

Il Personnel Recovery it is one of the most important capacities available to the contingents employed in operations and brings together all the structures responsible for the recovery and reintegration of personnel left for any isolated circumstance in a hostile environment.
