Afghanistan: courses for instructors on improvised explosive devices

11/09/14

In the last few days two courses have been planned and conducted for the first time exclusively by Afghan instructors in favor of Afghan National Police (ANP) under the supervision of the Genio component of Train Advise Assist Command West (TAAC-W), the multinational command on Bersaglieri Brigade base "Garibaldi".

The 15 days training course was attended by 25 attendees.

The training, carried out through theoretical-practical lessons, is part of the "counseling and assistance" activities that the Italian military performs in favor of the Afghan security forces as part of the transition process underway in the west region of the country.

The first of the two courses was aimed at providing the Afghan Border Police (ABP) with the appropriate skills for the application of techniques, tactics and procedures (TTP) in identifying and localizing threats arising from the different types of IED devices (Improvised Explosive Device). The IEDs, in fact, constitute the greatest source of danger for the security of the troops that move on the ground, as well as for the local population on the territory.

Instead, the second course provided adequate training for the correct use of metal detectors (metal detectors) to future Afghan Uniform Police instructors (AUP).

The activities ended with the presentation of the "attendance certificates" to the course participants in the presence of Brigadier General Mohammad Joma Adeel, commander of the 705 ^ ABP area and Colonel Ghulam Ghous Fakhruddin, commander of the Herat and the AUP representatives of the TAAC-W.
