Afghanistan: change of direction for the TAAC-W

Yesterday morning the headquarters of the Train Advise and Assist Command West (TAAC-W), the Italian-led NATO Command of the mission in Afghanistan Resolute Support (RS), was the scene of the alternation ceremony between the personnel of the “Pozzuolo del Friuli” brigade and the successor of the 132nd armored brigade “Ariete” under the command of Brigadier General Enrico Barduani.

The ceremony was attended by His Excellency the Italian Ambassador in Kabul Roberto Cantone, the Chief of Staff of the Interforze Summit Operational Command, Division Admiral Pier Federico Bisconti, the deputy commander of the NATO mission Resolute Support (RS) General of the Army Corps Giles Hill, as well as the highest civilian and military Afghan authorities of the West Region.

General Hill thanked Brigadier General Giovanni Parmiggiani, outgoing commander of the TAAC-W and the members of the "Pozzuolo del Friuli" cavalry brigade, for the excellent work and great results obtained in recent months in training, assistance and consultancy in favor of the Afghan Security Forces (ANDSF) and for the many activities of Civil and Military Cooperation conducted in support of the local population.

His Excellency the Italian ambassador in Kabul Roberto Cantone, in thanking the allied countries that operate at Camp Arena, reviewed the salient features of the Italian commitment in Afghanistan and in the region of Herat, characterized by a strong interconnection between military action and that of development cooperation.
"The successes achieved by our country in Afghanistan - stressed the ambassador - they have been made possible by the sacrifice of Italian women and men who have defended over the years the right of the Afghan people to a peaceful and prosperous future ".

At the same time, the command of the Task Force Arena, a unit that guarantees support to the TAAC-W, between the personnel belonging to the “Serenissima” Lagunari Regiment of Venice and the 11th Bersaglieri Regiment of Orcenico Superiore (Pordenone) took place.
