Official visit of the adm. Pierre Vandier, head of the French Marine Nationale

Marina Militare and Marine Nationale side by side to strengthen the dialogue as a framework for activities of common interest in the Enlarged Mediterranean.

With this in mind, on March 1, the official visit to Palazzo Marina of the chief of staff of the French Navy, Admiral Pierre Vandier, took place, welcomed by team admiral Giuseppe Cavo Dragone, chief of staff of the Italian Navy. .

The event is the first opportunity to meet, after the appointment as head of the MN on 1 September 2020, between Admiral Vandier and Admiral Cavo Dragone.

Strengthened by the multiple interests that bind the two Navies (and therefore the two Nations), the meeting is part of a particular context of collaboration and dialogue, extremely decisive for delineating the security framework of the Enlarged Mediterranean. In this sense, the French Navy is a partner of strategic importance for the Italian Navy, being the main actor with which the FA develops cooperation relationships in various sectors of interest: operational, training, training and technical-logistic.

During the visit, the two delegations had the opportunity to discuss the numerous issues of interest and the convergences within the domains of engagement of the military sphere: MM and MN conduct operations in the Mediterranean, in the Gulf of Guinea and in the Horn of Africa.

Consistently, numerous multilateral initiatives aimed at consolidating the Advanced Maritime Safety, to intervene effectively and promptly where necessary to protect national and European interests.

The meeting, which had positive implications, strengthened the union between the two Nations, to the undeniable advantage of increasing safety in the waters of the Enlarged Mediterranean, a mission for which MN represents the ideal partner. In this sense, the visit also favored the definition of a common route within the EU and NATO, thus catalyzing the relaunch of multilateral and mutual interest participations.
