Visit ISSMI on board the Carlo Margottini ship

Wednesday, February 12, 2025, Ship Carlo Margottini, docked in the port of Naples, hosted a delegation of the 27th Inter-Force General Staff Higher Course (ISSMI).

The unit, flagship operation Safe Mediterranean, currently under the tactical command of Rear Admiral Massimo Bonu, is an ASW (Anti-Submarine Warfare) version frigate which, thanks to its advanced sensors and weapons systems, represents a strategic asset for maritime security and the protection of national interests at an international level.

The delegation, composed of 66 people including attendees and companions, visited the naval unit, thus having the opportunity to directly compare with the operational reality of the Navy and to deepen the role of the naval component in inter-force dynamics.

During the visit, the ship's crew illustrated the functioning of the main on-board systems, focusing in particular on the command and control capabilities, the integration of sensors for maritime surveillance and the operational use of the unit in security missions, including the operation itself. At the end of the visit, the delegation participated in the decision briefing, the decision-making briefing that the tactical commander of the operation carries out daily, via videoconference, with the naval units under his tactical command.
This moment allowed the attendees of the 27th ISSMI course to share in a direct and concrete way the reality of the air and naval operations conducted by the Navy, confirming the strategic value of inter-force training and cooperation with other ministries and friendly and allied countries, in order to increase the full awareness of the military instrument in the future ruling class.
