A new camouflage uniform for divers

Seafarers working to recover submerged objects. Their work also includes the reclamation of our coasts from explosive devices remaining from the war: these are the divers of the Diving and Raiders Command (COMSUBIN), one of the most "senior" categories of the Navy.

In recent years we have seen them operate with the wreck of the Costa Concordia, in Genoa on the site of the collapse of the pilot tower of the port and in the thousands of operations aimed at restoring the safety of navigation or bathing, following the reports of conscientious citizens following the discovery of probable explosive artifacts dating back to the last conflicts.

The camouflage used so far was very similar to that used by colleagues in the Army, with whom our divers often worked jointly such as, for example, in Fano (PU) in 2018 to neutralize an aircraft bomb found on the coast , and in countless other underwater reclamations carried out daily in the lakes and rivers of our peninsula.

On 21 February 2020, there was a historical change for our divers, on the same day it took place in the presence of the Minister of Defense, Hon. Lorenzo Guerini, the patenting of the last ordinary course divers. From that date, in fact, to the men and women of the Diving Operations Group of Comsubin a camouflage uniform in shades of blue was granted in use.

The color and the tricks of this new operative garment, which in shape, type of vegetation and fabric was the same as that supplied to the Army, have been specifically designed both to reduce the visual impact of salt on the camouflage, and to be antistatic thus increasing the safety of divers during bomb destruction procedures through the use of explosive counter-charges.

This particular camouflage outfit will therefore represent, for the years to come, the divers of the Navy who, in the operational teams of Comsubin and aboard the naval units, will continue to operate for the Armed Force and for the country in the wake of their centenary tradition.
