The Navy unit left the port of Brindisi on 10 February with a field hospital on board, made available by the Piedmont Region to the Civil Protection, and other assets also collected through donations from private individuals and associations.
The commitment of the Defense continues for the populations of Turkey and Syria, affected by the terrible earthquake.
At the moment the Defense personnel (Army, Navy, Air Force and Carabinieri) are contributing with various activities to the relief operations in favor of the populations of Turkey and Syria.
In recent days, in close coordination with the Civil Protection, two Air Force C-130s - departing from Pisa and arriving in Beirut - have transported 4 ambulances and 4 doctors (from the San Donato hospital of the Piedmont Region) as well as medicines and other material to be allocated to the Syrian population.
Previously, one P180 and two C130 aircraft of the Air Force transported medicines, medical supplies, and rescue teams who were engaged in the first rescue operations.
As ordered by the Minister of Defence, the General Staff of Defence, through the operational command of interforce forces (COVI), since the first hours following the earthquake, has been directing and coordinating all the military assets provided by the armed forces in collaboration with the Civil Protection.
