Ship Vespucci starts from Palermo, the first port of the education campaign in favor of the students of the 1st class of the Naval Academy.

The stop in the Sicilian capital represented a precious opportunity for the young students to take stock of the first section of navigation and measure themselves with the activities of the ship in port. For the crew of the sailing ship and for the students, the stop was full of events and initiatives.

The ship was open to visits on board in favor of the civilian population, which were welcomed with great enthusiasm, as evidenced by the more than 12 visitors.

Among others, the president of the Sicily Region, Honorable Sebastiano Musumeci, and the prefects with the high military authorities of four provinces, who attended a regional college held in the capital, were also on board.

The meeting organized on board with the Falcone Foundation to commemorate the magistrate on the occasion of the thirtieth anniversary of the Mafia massacres was very emotional and full of meaning: the event was chaired by Professor Maria Falcone, Giovanni's sister, who told the story of story of his brother, a pupil of the Naval Academy for four months between 1957 and 1958, and of the man behind the hero, giving a shining example of loyalty to the homeland.

For the students this was also a precious opportunity to get in touch with the artistic, architectural and cultural heritage of the city, with the possibility of visiting the Palazzo dei Normanni.

Thus ends the first navigation of the future officers, excited to finally be on board the ship: "Even if this is not my first encounter with the sea, being aboard the Nave Vespucci aroused very strong emotions in me", says the pupil Davide Assenti.

The grit, the curiosity and the desire to get involved of the students and the crew now push Nave Vespucci towards Tunis, where it will arrive on 12 July.
