Young "dolphins" in submersible components! After passing 16 intense weeks of specialist training and testing their aptitude on board submarines, 44 young submariners were able to boast the "Dolphin", an exclusive symbol of belonging to the submarine component.
The badge delivery ceremony, presided over by the commander of the submarine component, Rear Admiral Vito Lacerenza, took place in Taranto on 12 May, at the submarine flotilla command. During the ceremony, which was attended by about 300 family members, the students who distinguished themselves for profit and performance were awarded by Admiral Filippo Casamassima, vice president of the national submarine component of ANMI (National Association of Italian Sailors).
The submarines, on which the patented young people will embark, are vehicles with a high technological content and play a fundamental role in safeguarding the vital interests of the country and for the pursuit of national security in the underwater dimension; this dimension is assuming ever greater importance in national interests and represents an enormous potential for growth and development for Italy in the coming decades. The submarine component, whose fleet consists of 8 submarines of which 4 of the U212A type with independent air propulsion, is always evolving and will see the entry into line of four units of the U212 class in the coming years Near Future Submarine currently under construction in La Spezia, which will gradually replace the submarines of the class Sauro.
